Transport

Arriving to Budapest:

Ferihegy 2 International Aiport is located about 24 km from the city center.

The Centrum Minibus leaves for the airport every half hour from 05:30 AM to 9 PM, from in front of the Hotel Kempinski at V. Erzsebet ter. The trip takes 30 minutes. The cost is 800 Ft, payable on the bus.

The Airport Minibus will pick you up anywhere in Budapest and take you to the airport. Call 296 85 55 from 04:30 - 22:30 at least 24 hours ahead to reserve. The price is 1,800 Ft and it is accessible to wheelchair users.

Public transport is also available. You have to take an aiport bus to the blue line station which in turn will take you to the center. It would take about 50 minutes to get downtown.

A taxi ride from the city center to the airport should cost no more than 5000 Ft.

Buses, Trams, Metro:

Budapest has a very convinient public transportation system. There is a good network of buses, electric busses or trolleys and trams. Budapest metro is another easy way to get around. Trains run regularily every three minutes or so. There are three metro lines in Budapest. Yellow line is one of the oldest in the world. It was built at the end of the 19th century and runs through the center of the city. Red line goes from East to West and crosses Danube to Pest. Blue line runs from the North to the South and goes all the way to the ariport. More information about the Metro can be found at: www.metropla.net.

You can buy tickets for buses and trams at the metro stations or at the tobacco shops and validate them by using a punch machine.

Be careful hailing a cab on a street. Budapest cabbies are infamous tourist cheaters. The best way to use a cab is to negotiate a rate in advance or to order one by phone from a reliable service. Taxis are legally prohibited from charging more than the following amounts anywhere in Budapest: From 6 AM to 10 PM - 200 Ft per kilometer, and 50 Ft/minute for waiting. Afterwords, 280 Ft basic fee, 280 Ft per kilometer, and 70 Ft/minute for waiting. Taxis are all supposed to have working meters and be able to issue a receipt.
