Phones
When calling home, you can always dial directly from your hotel room but this may cost a bundle. I suggest that you use a calling card. If you do not have one, you can get a card in Budapest from the post office, newsstands or train stations. For international calls dial the international access code 00, country code, area code and the phone number. There is no discount for calling abroad at off-peak hours. For calls in Hungary outside of Budapest dial the national access code 06, area code and the phone number. Budapest numbers have seven digits and may be dialed directly.
Cell Phones
As everywhere in Europe, GSM users will have roaming on their regular phones. If you have a phone from the American provider, it will most likely not work. If life isn’t the same without a cell phone, you can easily rent one in Budapest.

Do you like to send cards home? Or have you shopped so much that all of it does not fit in your luggage and you need to ship some purchase home?
